Herbert Hoover: A Bibliography
O'Brien, Patrick G.
Considered an irredeemably flawed and catastrophic president during the Depression era, Hoover has been the subject of revisionist scholarship that has culminated in his rehabilitation as a practitioner of one variety of progressivism. This bibliography cites over 2600 entries depicting the continuum of contemporary and historical viewpoints. It includes all key writings in Hoover historiography. After an introduction and a chronology of Hoover's life, chapters cover manuscript and archival sources, Herbert Hoover's writings, and biographical publications. Chapters 4 and 5 are devoted to his early years and his mature years. The next three chapters cover the Presidential election of 1928, the Hoover administration, and the election of 1932. Chapters 9 and 10 review Hoover's administration associates, and his post-presidential years. Concluding chapters discuss Hoover's philosophy, the personal lives of the Hoovers, historiographical materials, and iconography of the Hoovers. The work also includes a section on periodicals and author and subject indexes.
